More about Kristen Beavers

May I introduce myself I am Kristen Beavers.

I grew up a military child, joined when I graduated at 17 but having ankylosing spondylitis got me disqualified so I went back to my interest of massage therapy. Growing up in a lot of pain there were so many times I was unknowingly helping myself by burning cinnamon sticks and clove buds as soon as I was old enough to get ahold of them and then reading my grandmothers medical books the ones, interesting me the most were the holistic ones. Thankfully, I went to school for massage therapy at a time when it had reached full medical and holistic recognition in the state of Tennessee. I gained a holistic focused education from 2011-2012 at Miller-Motte Technical College in TN graduating with a 970 credit hour degree. I also attained my first Reiki attunement that year.

Since then, I have attained all three Reiki attunements twice (because I lost the initial certificates and love the practice) and continued my holistic education focusing on techniques that incorporate somatic teachings.

Some of which include participating in a communal nature-based healing project spanning a year with four seasonal workshops called Earth Keepers Wisdom School, and taking twice weekly one on one Martial Arts lessons for four years as well continued self practice of eight years now. I am certified in Craniosacral Massage Therapy, Myofascial Massage Therapy, Holistic Health Coaching, Psychosomatic Medicine, Tuina, Cupping Therapy, Sound Medicine, Somatic Movement, and Ecstatic Dance Facilitation. I am soon to be an Ace Certified personal trainer with a focus on corrective exercises and have also done some of a Bachelor Degree in Psychology, though I am unlikely to finish that.

I love to continue learning, reading and taking holistic health continued education about the fascia, the nervous system, body mechanics, and mobility. I am physically maintaining and gaining techniques for wellness embodiment dedicating myself to continue learning through life

Why a dam?

Beavers are a keystone creature whose presence brings health and abundance of nutrients to ecosystems. Their ability to restore wetlands are being found to be crucial for the survival of water systems.

Beavers are known for their dams, which they build for the safety that deeper water brings them, aiding in escape. This exchange of changing their environment to fit their safety needs changes the environment in ways that very often benefit more than just themselves.

Maybe it is the beavers' dedication to maintenance that we can admire the most.

Maintaining our fascia's elasticity and lymphatic fluidity is key to our health and mobility.

Water is also symbolic of emotions so like the beaver dedicating themselves to deep water and the protection to their well-being it brings maybe we need to be able to move fluidly through times of deep emotional processing to protect our well-being.

In honor of this, The Health Dam has chosen to honor the Beaver, and their work in the world.

It also pays respects to my own health journey. Being someone who had an immensely traumatic childhood, feeling more connected to animals and dealing with an autoimmune disease for as long as I can remember I had to learn to protect and care for myself which in turn allowed me to help others, much like the beaver.

May we all connect with ourselves, nature and wildness to help heal the past, the present, and the future.
